NUS Computing hosts Winter Meeting for the 32nd International Olympiad in Informatics

13 Mar 2020 - Members of the local and international organising committees for the 32nd International Olympiad for Informatics (IOI2020) met at a Winter Meeting held in Singapore from 24 to 28 February, at the National University of Singapore (NUS) School of Computing. The purpose of the meeting was to assess the preparations for the event, which is planned to be held from 19 to 26 July 2020, and discuss any potential issues.

The IOI Winter Meeting was opened with a short ceremony where Associate Professor Tan Sun Teck, Executive Director of IOI2020, was presented with a notebook from Acer, the main sponsor of the competition. Since 2016, Acer has been the main sponsor for IOI, and will be providing the notebooks that this year’s participants will be using in the competition.

During the meeting, members of the International Committee, International Technical Committee and IOI Scientific Committee were given a tour of the competition venues, as well as the various accommodation options for participants, team leaders, and guests. They also visited Gardens by the Bay, one of the excursion sites planned for the event.

Special precautions and measures, such as daily temperature taking and online video conferencing, were taken in light of the ongoing COVID-19 (also known as the 2019 Novel Coronavirus) situation. Discussions were also held to assess potential repercussions of the outbreak on IOI2020.

The local organising committee is closely monitoring the developments of the outbreak, and unless there is a substantial deterioration in the situation, IOI2020 will proceed as planned. The final decision to proceed with or cancel the event will be made in end April.
